The United States has been home to many Caribbean immigrants dating back to the first world war and even to today it is still the home of many third and forth generation descendants.
It is said that more Caribbean people live in the U.S. than those still on the individual islands. Florida and New York has the highest concentration of Caribbean immigrants and those numbers are steadily growing. Other areas such as; Atlanta, Philadelphia and Texas are seeing their Caribbean population increase year over year.
Florida is just about an hour away to the closest island the Bahamas and serves as the main export point to the Caribbean. As a matter of fact Florida is sometimes seen as an extension of the Caribbean given its proximity and high level of trade. South Florida is home to a lot of Caribbean people and businesses serving all sectors of the local economy. There are hundreds of restaurants, grocery store, automotive, Bars and legal service business in the area just to name a few. Once you are in South Florida you will have no problem finding an establishment catering to the Caribbean community or getting the feeling of being back home.
Places to visit:
South Florida stretches from the Palm Beaches down to Key West. This area of Florida has the highest concentration of Caribbean resident and a Jamaican restaurant such as Montego Bay Jerk Center or Donna's Restaurant serves up authentic Jamaican dishes. As you go further south to Miami there are numerous places for dining as well.
Day Time Fun and Night Life:
While in South Florida there are lots of places to go for fun. Our famous Fort Lauderdale Beach stretches for miles opening up the Atlantic ocean to you for boating or swimming. There are also parks if you prefer to go for a picnic or horse back riding. For night time entertainment a trip to Memory Lane or Garden Cafe is a must and for the ultimate wine connoisseur you should make it to Kareem's on west Oakland Park Blvd.
